Flash floods hit Barpeta town due to incessant downpour

BARPETA: Due to incessant downpour, most of the main places of Barpeta town have submerged in water.

Areas like Brindaban Hati, Galiahati, Palangdihati, Ketekibari, Nahati and Kumarhati in the town are under water. Few years ago, the drainage system in the town was constructed but not scientifically, alleged local people. Due to the negligence of Barpeta Municipality, the drains are blocked and this has led to the problem of water-logging.

Due to the flash flood, many people have shifted to safer places like schools. Local people fear that if this problem is not addressed soon, flash floods in Barpeta town will wreak havoc as in Guwahati city.
