ORANG: In a major stride towards transformative changes in the country’s education sector, the Government of India has launched the ambitious ‘Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Gram Utkars Abhiyan’ aimed at uplifting remote tribal villages. As part of this visionary initiative, student hostels with 100-bed capacity were sanctioned for Bhergaon Higher Secondary School under Udalguri district.

On July 29, the foundation stone for one such hostel was ceremonially laid through virtual mode by Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan. The centrally sponsored initiative seeks to eliminate educational disadvantages caused by difficult transportation in remote areas and to ensure that no student is deprived of education due to commuting hardships.

Participating in the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary lauded the initiative, stating that it addressed a long-standing need of students from far-flung regions. “No student will now be forced to drop out due to the lack of lodging or transportation. This initiative ensures inclusive access to quality education,” he added.

The foundation-laying programme at Bhergaon Higher Secondary School witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Udalguri District BJP General Secretary Jaoshang Boro, Vice-President Bikon Deka, BTC Executive Member Daobaisa Boro, and Bhergaon District UPPL President Nerkhang Khakhlari, among others. A large number of local leaders, party workers, and members of the public also attended the event, expressing support and appreciation for the move.
