GUWAHATI: The "Taxpayers' Lounge" was introduced today by the Directorate of Income Tax (PR, P&P), CBDT, New Delhi, at the 14th East Himalayan Trade Fair, which was hosted at the Assam Engineering Institute Playground in Chandmari, Guwahati.
In collaboration with the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Northeastern Region (NER), Guwahati, this project seeks to promote wider participation in the tax system and recognise the contribution of taxpayers to the development of the country.
In his opening speech, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, NER, N. R. Soni, thanked taxpayers for their vital contributions to India's development. He emphasised the significance of increasing tax knowledge, particularly in Northeast India, where there is currently a poor level of tax compliance.
According to Soni, the Taxpayers' Lounge serves as a forum for public education, tax engagement, and the development of an accountable and transparent culture. Additionally, he introduced the movie "Thank You Taxpayers," which emphasises the vital role that taxpayers play in India's progress.
The initiative's impact will soon be expanded by including students from prestigious universities like IIT Guwahati and AIIMS Guwahati, according to Smt. Ritu Singh Sarma, ADG, PR & PT.
The lounge, which featured displays to help people understand the tax system, was open for visitors to explore. A captivating Nukkad Natak performance and a magic act were also included in the event, which artistically conveyed important tax-related lessons. Officers and attendees received recognition for their contributions to the event's success as it came to a close.
