Haflong: Heaven Blue Athletic Club of Haflong has taken an admirable initiative—Plastic Picking Walk. In an age where plastic pollution poses a severe threat to ecosystems and communities, the Heaven Blue Club’s focus on this critical issue is both timely and necessary. The club’s initiative is more than just a clean-up effort; it is a call to action for the entire community to rethink their relationship with plastic and adopt more sustainable habits.

The club’s members, driven by a shared passion for preserving the natural beauty of Haflong, have organized regular plastic picking drives. These efforts not only clean up the local environment but also raise awareness about the harmful impacts of plastic waste. Through these drives, the club is educating the community about the importance of reducing plastic use, recycling, and proper disposal methods.

Today the members of the club deposited more than 250 kg of plastic to the Haflong Municipal Board in exchange of one kg of rice for one kg of plastic.

This initiative was initiated by the General Secretary of HBAC T T Daolagupu who is also the Principal Secretary of N C Hills Autonomous Council to make people aware about the importance of reducing plastic use, recycling, and proper disposal methods.

Daolagupu said, “The club’s initiative is more than just a clean-up effort; it is a call to action for the entire community to rethink their relationship with plastic and adopt more sustainable habits.”
