LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Trained Home Guard Association has resorted to stir demanding the security of the job of trained home guard personnel.

In this connection, the homeguard personnel have boycotted their service since die from March 7 and demanded the State Government to regularize their job at the earliest. In addition, the organization has demanded the government to pay them their salary maintaining the equality with other similar jobs by strictly adhering to the verdict of the Supreme Court and to scrap the Online Deployment System which has been followed with regard to deploying the home guard personnel in rotation basis. In support of these demand, the members of the organization demonstrated a sit-in in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office of Lakhimpur on Monday from 9:00 am.

Regarding their stir, Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Trained Home Guard Association president Khirod Dutta, general secretary Dimbeswar Borah said, "Talk was held for three times with Jishnu Baruah, the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, for the permanent resolution to the problems of the homeguard personnel. During the talk, we were promised that the government would resolve our problems at the earliest. We were promised that our issues would be raised to discuss in the first Cabinet meeting of the incumbent government. We were also promised that the government would pay us our salary by maintaining equality with other jobs. But, unfortunately, it has been observed that no initiative on the part of the State Government has been taken in order to fulfil the promises or to resolve our problems". They further added that 40 homeguard personnel were taken to Silchar from Lakhimpur for Assam Assembly Election duty last year.
