JAMUGURIHAT: International Women's Day was celebrated in Sootea by different organizations on March 8.

The members of Nari Shakti, an NGO, celebrated the day at Senior Citizen Home, Sootea on Monday. The members of Nari Shakti assembled from Sootea and Biswanath at the Senior Citizen Home to celebrate the special day with aged persons. The programme began with Kirtan path by one of the residents of the old-age home followed by an interaction session with the residents. The members of Nari Shakti felicitated the old members of the home with a phulam gamosa. On behalf of Nari Shakti, Md. Nurul Ahmed, Kiran Barua, Purabi Hazarika and Manashi Devi spoke about the importance of the day. The members of Nari Shakti distributed fruits, juice and snacks to the residents.

Similarly, Warriors, another NGO constituted for safeguarding women, celebrated the day at an old age home located at Saraijonia village of Sootea with a day-long programme. Warriors, in collaboration with Milijuli Gramya Sangathan of undivided Sonitpur district, organized different entertaining events among the residents of the old-age home for the amusement of the aged persons.

Tezpur: International Women' Day was observed by Women Cell in association with IQAC of Behali Degree College. The topic of the meeting was 'Women's Self Employment: Prospect and Challenges'.

Dr. Jiban Ch. Nath, Principal of Behali Degree College, presided over the meeting. Dr. Mitali Devi, secretary of Women Cell, highlighted the objective of the meeting. The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Swapnali Saikia, Assistant Professor, Assamese Department.

An exhibition was organized in connection with the topic of the meeting. Renowned educationist and the president of governing body of Behali Degree College, Indreswar Kataki inaugurated the exhibition. Dr. Tuntun Borah and Dr. Kongkona Borborah appreciated the strength of women through songs. Ramen Borah, Vice-Principal of Behali Degree College, along with Dr. Binod Subedi delivered speech to encourage the girls.

Songs and dances were performed by few girls. A solo drama was performed by Prity Boral, Durga Devi, Indira Devi and Ujala Devi to highlight the need for girls' education.
