Irrigation officer arrested in Dima Hasao on POCSO and cybercrime charges

HAFLONG: Dima Hasao police arrested an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) from the irrigation department on Wednesday morning following a complaint.

The accused, identified as Binash Thaosen, 44, a father of two and resident of Surat Nagar, Haflong, faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In a press briefing, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Faruque Ahmed revealed that Thaosen had been sexually assaulting a minor girl for several days. The accused allegedly blackmailed the victim using an audio recording to coerce her. A case has been registered at the Haflong police station (Case No. 54/2025) under Section 64 (2) (M) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and Sections 67 (A) and 67 (B) (a) of the IT Act for creating and distributing the audio recording. ASP Ahmed confirmed that the accused has been sent for judicial proceedings.
