DHEKIAJULI: In a major boost to women's entrepreneurship and rural agri-infrastructure, MLA Ganesh Kumar Limbu and Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Ankur Bharali formally inaugurated the new Common Service Centre (CSC) and mustard oil extraction unit of Jaymoti Farmer Producer Company (FPC) at Puthimari Bapu Bheti under Borsola constituency. The initiative was made possible through the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART), supported by the Department of Agriculture, Sonitpur.
Jayamati FPC is the only women-led Farmer Producer Company in the state, comprising over 650 women farmers. Under the leadership of Chairperson Kamal Kumari Boro, the FPC has achieved remarkable success cultivating mustard across 4,000 bighas in 2024 and earning lakhs in revenue.
Now, backed by 80% government subsidy, the new mustard oil mill and CSC worth Rs 37 lakh have been established. The FPC aims to produce and market pure mustard oil under the brand name ‘Jaymoti Khaati Shoriohor Tel’ (Jaymoti Pure Mustard Oil), meeting the growing demand for authentic, chemical-free cooking oil in Sonitpur and beyond.
Speaking at the inauguration, MLA Limbu hailed the development as a matter of pride for the Borsola area, noting that Jaymoti FPC is among the only 20 FPCs in Assam to receive a CSC, and one of just four in the state that has been granted a mustard oil mill under APART.
He encouraged the FPC to expand into national markets and assured all possible support from his end. Deputy Commissioner Ankur Bharali praised the company as a model of women’s self-reliance and expressed confidence that Jaymoti’s venture will play a key role in reducing dependency on adulterated cooking oil in the Dhekiajuli and Borsola area.
The event also marked the official launch of the ‘Jaymoti Khaati Shoriohor Tel’ brand, with dignitaries from APART and the agriculture department in attendance. Present were BJP Mahila Morcha State President Swapna Bonia, APART Cluster Development Expert Prabin Bharali, Marketing Coordinator Saurabh Srivastava, District Agriculture Officer Naren Chandra Sharma, Additional Agriculture Director Manoj Narzary, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Dr Zakir Hussain, Executive Engineer Prasannajit Saikia, Senior Agriculture Development Officer Ajit Pathak, Gaurav Kashyap, BTM Padmanath Doley, and several other key figures.
Jayamati FPC’s success stands as a powerful example of how women-led rural enterprises can drive sustainable, localized agri-business solutions.
