BOKAKHAT: The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on Thursday at JDSG College, Bokakhat, through a joint initiative by the Tai Ahom Students’ Union and the Bokakhat Subdivision Chutia Students’ Union, with the cooperation of the Bokakhat police administration.

On this occasion, an awareness meeting was held in the college auditorium, organized by Lachit Kakoti, Secretary of the Chutia Students’ Union. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Jayanta Gogoi, Principal of the college.

Among the notable attendees at the event were Bokakhat Subdivision Assistant Commissioner Ankita Baruah, Officer-in-Charge of Bokakhat police station Bitopan Chutia, President of Bokakhat Press Club Bhabananda Kalita, Secretary Uttam Saikia, Sub-Inspector Barsha Deori of Kohora police outpost, Professor Prashanta Saikia, President of the Bokakhat Unit of the Chutia Students’ Union Montu Saikia, Secretary of Golaghat District Gorkha Students’ Union Rudra Chetry, President and Secretary of the Bokakhat Unit of the Tea Tribe Students’ Union Amrit Sagar and Krishan Tanti respectively, and President of the Students’ Unity Forum Sourav Gogoi, along with other members and office-bearers of various student organizations.

During the event, the invited speakers addressed the students on various aspects such as the usage of drugs, its dangers, economic and psychological impacts, the role of the international black market, and methods for overcoming drug addiction.

At the end of the programme, Vijay Phukan, President of the Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Bokakhat Sub-Division unit, offered the traditional ‘Xorai’ as a token of respect, and Professor Krishna Rongpi led the gathering in a pledge to eliminate the use and spread of drugs from society.
