MANGALDAI: The Darrang district committee of the philanthropic organization Karunadhara held a notable meeting on Friday at the Mangaldai Sanatan Dharma Sabha hall, where it extended vital financial assistance worth Rs 94,000 to several critically ill patients in need. The meeting, presided over by committee president Mukul Chandra Deka, witnessed the participation of over a hundred attendees, including dignitaries such as Legislator Basanta Das, District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, Municipal Chairperson Nirmali Devi Sharma, and newly appointed BJP state women’s wing president Nilima Devi.
Responding to the committee’s appeal for land allotment, Legislator Basanta Das assured the gathering that a suitable plot of land would soon be allotted in the name of Karunadhara, recognizing its dedicated service to the underprivileged. He emphasized the importance of supporting organizations like Karunadhara, which continue to uphold humanitarian values. District Commissioner Kakaty echoed similar sentiments and affirmed that necessary procedures for land allocation would be completed promptly.
The meeting, anchored by secretary Ganesh Dutta, saw active participation from key committee figures including Chief Advisor Dr. Amarendra Narayan Dev and Executive President Shekhar Mazumdar. Senior journalist Bhargab Kumar Das, in his address, praised Karunadhara as more than an organization—describing it as a “continuous journey of humanity.”
In a gesture of support to education, a cheque of Rs 4,000 was also handed over to Manas Deka, a student from Deomornoi, by another social welfare group Ashar Alok – Manuhey Manuhar Babey, Darrang. The event further honoured Rajen Baitha from Gerimari, who, despite working with his father in laundry services, secured admission to the prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela. His remarkable journey was recognized along with his mother, Meena Kumari Devi, drawing applause and appreciation from the audience.
