MANGALDAI: The long-felt dream of a permanent address of the media persons based at Kharupetia- the Vegetable Hub of Assam, is going to be transformed into the reality with the laying of the foundation of the building of Kharupetia Press Club on Saturday.
The foundation was laid in the presence of several media persons from Mangaldai, Dhula, Dalgaon, Besimari, besides Kharupetia. Synchronizing with the foundation laying ceremony, an interactive session was also organized at the plot of the allotted land at Balugaon near Kharupetia. In the session presided over by the President of Kharupetia Press Club Shraban Kumar Jha, founder office bearers of Kharupetia Press Club and octogenarian former journalists Ataur Rahman and Meser Ali were accorded a rousing felicitation. They also offered felicitation to senior journalists Bhargab Kumar Das and Mayukh Goswami of Mangaldai, Pradip Ghosh and Abdul Ajij of Dalgaon, and former journalist of Kharupetia Paban Kumar Jha with letters of citation and a gamosa. Expressing their solidarity with the farmers, the Kharupetia Press Club also offered felicitation to ideal and progressive farmers Habibur Rahman and Jarip Ali.
Addressing the interactive session, both the octogenarian journalists, while sharing several memorable incidents of their long journalistic career, became emotional and nostalgic. They both urged the young journalists to always remain firm in bringing the true picture of a news story.
On the other hand, all other journalists in the Dias expressed serious concern over the growing threats of fake news and fake journalists taking the opportunity of social media platforms. They appealed to the journalist fraternity to keep vigil on such activities and fight unitedly against these anti- social acts. The meet ended with the vote of thanks by Assistant Secretary Fakrul Islam. It was anchored by its Working President Imdadul Islam. Earlier, its secretary Abdul Hakim explained the objectives of the meet. The foundation of the proposed permanent office building of the Press Club, to be constructed at Rs 4.5 lakhs under the 15th Finance Commission, was jointly laid by social activists Mainuddin Ahmed and Makhan Das while tributes were also paid to the departed soul of former President of the Press Club Mangal Singh Jhanjhari.
