SIVASAGAR: Coinciding with the 108th Foundation Day of the Axom Xahitya Xabha, the newly constructed building of Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, located near Sivasagar Municipal Office, was ceremoniously inaugurated by Sivasagar Ratna Sonaram Baruah, former president of the Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha on Friday.

The solemn event, anchored by Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha secretary Santosh Dutta, was graced by several dignitaries, including Sivasagar District Development Commissioner Samiran Bora, Prema Gogoi, Juga Gogoi, Dr Anil Saikia, Binoa Taye, Dr Prashanta Kumar Chutia, Dr Prakash Kotoky, Biman Sensuwa Baruah, Kiran Baruah, Suryakanta Das, Dr Arundhati Mahanta, Dr Jiban Kalita, and others.

The day began with the flag hoisting ceremony by Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha President Dr Nirupoma Mahanta. This was followed by a soulful rendition of the inaugural song by students of Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Amolapatty. During the ceremony, Kamal Chiring and Haresh Chutia were honoured for their contributions.

The construction of the building was made on a 1.5 katha plot of land through financial support from various sources, including former Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tassa (2019-20 financial year), the Sivasagar session centenary celebration committee of the Axom Xahitya Xabha, and generous contributions from the Zilla Xahitya Xabha’s members, led by Dr Nirupoma Mahanta.

Following the inauguration, Sivasagar MLA’s representative, Rupa Bora, officially opened the development work of the road leading to the building, funded with rupees 5 lakh allocated by the MLA.

In a related event earlier in the day, the Axom Xahitya Xabha’s flag was hoisted at the Na-Mati Xahitya Mandir in Nazira by branch President Ranima Gogoi. The ceremony took place at the Bhola Nath Dutta and Swarnalata Dutta Bhawan.
