BOKAKHAT: A successful evening of theatrical performances was organized at Lakhowjan in Bokakhat sub-division, under the initiative of Saurav Puthibharal, in collaboration with Kalyani Mahila Samiti, Lakhowjan Regional Theatre Hall, and the residents of Lakhowjan. Notably, since July 12, a children’s drama workshop was held at the Lakhowjan Regional Theatre Hall, alongside a practical training workshop for youths above the age of 20, focusing on acting and direction. A total of 41 children and 15 trainees above 20 years participated in the workshops.

The chief trainer for the programme was Assam’s renowned comedian and popular entertainer Arun Hazarika. He was assisted by two talented young theatre artistes, Dibyajyoti Bora and Ritupon Choudhury. The evening’s proceedings began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by theatre hall President Bubul Bora, as part of the programme hosted by Bokakhat Subdivisional Journalist Association President Bubul Dutta. The event opened with a group song performed by the artistes of Kalyani Mahila Samiti, and the stage was formally inaugurated by chief trainer Arun Hazarika.

Distinguished guests included Assam State Journalists Association President and noted theatre activist Jitu Sharma Rajkhowa, youth activist Animesh Saikia, playwright Amar Sharma, retired Professor Dr Arun Bora, Principal of Rajabari Higher Secondary School Bogai Chinte, Jayanta Chetia, and Keshab Chetia.

At the event organized by Saurav Puthibharal in collaboration with Kalyani Mahila Samiti and Lakhowjan Regional Theatre Hall, tributes were paid to trainer Arun Hazarika, Dibyajyoti Bora, Ritupon Choudhury, as well as instrumentalists Chandan Kotoki and Dudul Bora, and dance instructor Jahnavi Dutta.

A highlight of the programme was the staging of the children’s play ‘Aranya Katha’ (Tale of the Forest), written by renowned playwright Amar Sharma. The play showcased the acting and dance talents of around twenty children. It was directed by Dibyajyoti Bora and co-directed by Ritupon Choudhury.

The evening also featured the play ‘Pendulum,’ written by Amar Sharma and presented by Sarathi Natya Gosthi, Bokakhat. This play had earlier won multiple awards in various state-level competitions. It was directed by Ronal Hussain and featured performances by Ritupon Choudhury, Dibyajyoti Bora, Popy Goswami, and Mridumalay Bora.

Additionally, Amar Sharma’s direction brought to stage Suren Kumar Nandi’s one-act play ‘Briefcase.’
