Librarians’ Day Observed in Dhubri with Lectures, Awards, and Tributes

DHUBRI: Pramathesh Barua College of Gauripur, Bilasipara College, and Sankardev Sishu Bidya Niketan of Bilasipara observed Librarians’ Day on Tuesday.

On this occasion Pramathesh Barua College Library of Gouripur organized a lecture programme on ‘Importance of Books in digital era’ which was delivered by writer, environmental activist, and Convener of Indian Ethno library Society, Dr Haricharan Das.

While expressing his view on digital books, Dr Das said that digital books were undoubtedly informative but to get deep knowledge and the joy of reading, we had to read books made of paper.

The meeting was presided over by the Principal of the college, Dr Kalyan Das, where the Best Reader award of Pramathesh Barua College Library was presented to Mukunda Madhav Bhakat, a student of the college’s commerce stream.

The function was anchored by the Librarian of the college, Tilak Sarma.

On the other hand, Dr Banikanta Kakati Library of Bilasipara College offered tribute to Dr SR Ranganathan, the pioneer of library science in India. Deepa Das, student of the Political Science department, received the Best Reader award of Dr Banikanta Kakati library.

Sankardev Sisu Vidya Niketan of Bilasipara also observed the Librarians’ Day which was organized by Indian Ethno Library Society and Assam Library Association. On this occasion ‘Grantha Pranam’ and ‘Grantha Daan’ programme was held and ‘Grantha Pranam’ song written by Dr Haricharan Das was played. Sibaji Karmakar, the Pradhanacharya of the Niketan, delivered a lecture on the Librarians’ Day. The teachers and the students participated in the programmes in all the three institutions.
