GORESWAR: A mortar shell was spotted on Sunday by local residents in an eroded area of the Khandajan river near the old firing range in Bimalanagar village, under the jurisdiction of Nagrijuli police outpost in Tamulpur district. The residents immediately informed the police. The live 81 mm mortar was kept under police and SSB surveillance throughout the day and was recovered on Monday by a bomb disposal team from Changsari military station. According to Tamulpur district Senior Superintendent of Police, Diganta Kumar Choudhury, the mortar was successfully defused by the army team on Monday noon.

During the operation, police, SSB personnel, and the Gram Pradhan were present. All necessary safety and security measures were taken to ensure that no harm came to the public. The residents of the area praised the alertness and effective coordination of the administration.
