Local people in Lakhimpur alleged low-quality work in road construction

LAKHIMPUR: Implementation of low quality work with regard to the construction and strengthening of the Subansiri embankment, which serves as road too, under Subansiri Panchayat of Dhakuakhana subdivision, was alleged by the local people and the Subansiri regional unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU).

The local people and the AASU activists alleged that the contractor who was engaged for the implementation of the work, had indulged in irregularities to misappropriate the government fund while implementing the work. According to their allegations, the layer of the blacktop of the road had detached just two days after the work was finished.

Under such circumstances, the AASU activists and local people expressed apprehensions regarding the durability of the road-cum-embankment. They demanded the contractor to construct the road as per estimate by implementing high quality work. They also demanded the departments concerned and the district administration to keep watch on his work.
