KOKRAJHAR: On the occasion of World Environment Day, a plantation drive was organized at Boroghola Lower Primary School with active participation from students, teachers, and the local community. The event was led by the Headmistress of the school, Gourismita Sen Chaliha, who inaugurated the programme and guided the plantation activity with great enthusiasm.
The initiative to organize the programme was taken by Grameen Sahara, which played a key role in planning and coordinating the event. The organization is a Not-for-Profit Organization which from its very inception has been engaged in promotion and strengthening of sustainable livelihoods in the unreached areas. The programme was supported by Transform Trade (TT), an organization which aims to foster innovative and sustainable solutions to global challenges. Their mission is to build a brighter future for communities and extend their positive impact globally.
The community members from the village played a vital role in making the event successful. Their active involvement and warm support made the drive truly impactful and inspiring.
A total of 50 saplings of various species, including gokul, azar, mango, jackfruit, guava, black jamun, devdaru, arjun, black myrobalan, and krishna sura, were planted in the school compound, nearby church area, and the village cemetery. The saplings were provided by the Divisional Forest Office, Social Forestry Division, Kokrajhar, BTR, Assam.
During the programme, three key environmental messages were shared with the students and community: throw waste materials in dustbins, avoid using plastic materials, and plant more trees to protect the environment. The event not only contributed to greening the surroundings but also strengthened the community’s commitment to protecting nature.
