LPG cylinder filled with heroin seized; 2 arrested in Karimganj district

SILCHAR: Braving massive police operation, drugs syndicate in Barak Valley seemed to adopt a new method for smuggling. One such incident happened on Sunday night in Patharkandi area of Karimganj district. Police recovered 690 grams heroin worth reportedly more than Rs 5 crore. The contraband substances were recovered in a bag which was surprisingly hidden inside a remodeled cylinder while being transported. Two persons were arrested in this case though the main accused managed to run away before the police arrived.

Partha Pratim Das, Additional SP of Karimganj, who led the operation admitted that a new technique of hiding the and transporting the contraband substances was now being adopted by the miscreants. The narcotic substances were kept inside 49 soap cases but to mislead the police they hid the soap cases inside a remodeled LPG cylinder. Das said, the new technique of hiding drugs inside a remodeled cylinder was unknown to the police. The cylinder was filled with foam to make it soundproof and less suspicious. Das said main accused Jamil would be nabbed very soon.
