Mangaldai United Club Pays Tribute to Er. Kula Dhar Saharia on First Death Anniversary

MANGALDAI: A good number of friends, well wishers and family members in an august function on Sunday offered their glowing tribute in loving memory of the former chairman of Brahmaputra Board, prominent actor and sports organizer Er Kula Dhar Saharia on his first death anniversary. Mangaldai United Club, a premier socio cultural organization of Darrang district who produced Assamese film ‘Aranya’ organized a solemn function at the meeting hall of the club with veteran sportsperson and president of the Club Biren Medhi on chair.

Taking part in the function, Mangaldai legislator and former Minister Basanta Das, Phulendra Nath Saharia, Nagen Choudhury, litterateur Idrish Ali, Dr Joy Kanta Saharia, Mukul Goswami and Advocate Jayanta Deka recalled the life and works of late Saharia and the close association with him.

They also recalled the bold role at the time of producing the film ‘Aranya’ in the year 1971 which is the first crowd funded film in Assam  produced by a club of a small town of Mangaldai.

The members of the club while recalling the bold acting of late Saharia in the drama ‘Bhiksha’ played in the one-act drama competition organized by Asom Natya Sanmilan in 1968, became nostalgic.

In the function, secretary of the Club Parag Kumar Deka accorded a hearty welcome in his speech while the family members of late Sahariah including his son Bikram Sahariah and younger brother Dr Dhiren Sahariah also offered homage.  Earlier Dhira Ghosh Sahariah, wife of late Sahariah initiated the tribute paying ceremony by lighting the lamp in front of the portrait of late Sahariah.
