TEZPUR: A coordination meeting for the smooth conduct and peaceful observance of Muharram on July 6 in Sonitpur district was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Ankur Bharali at the Conference Hall, DC Office, Sonitpur. The meeting, attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha and other key officials, focused on issues related to procession timings, crowd management, cleanliness, designated routes, and safety protocols.

The District Commissioner informed that rehearsals from July 3 to 5 must follow the allotted time slots. On the day of Muharram, Tezpur town committees can hold processions from 4 PM to 7 PM, and peripheral area committees are to observe festivities from 3 PM to 6 PM within their notified areas. Only notified Muharram committees of Tezpur town will be permitted to conduct processions inside the town. Emphasizing safety, he urged the deployment of committee volunteers to support the administration in maintaining law and order.

The Superintendent of Police strictly advised that no sharp weapons be carried during processions. A traffic route map will be prepared and shared with all concerned. Representatives of Muharram committees from across the district assured their full cooperation. Co-district commissioners and CDSPs have also been instructed to hold similar preparatory meetings in their respective jurisdictions.

The meeting was attended by ADC (Mag) Twahir Alam, Co-DCs Dyotiva Bora (Dhekiajuli) and Manash Kumar Saikia (Naduar), Addl SP (HQ) Madhurima Das, circle officers, Joint Director of Health Services, OCs of various police outposts, and members of Tezpur United Muharram Committee and its sub-committees.
