DIBRUGARH: In a heart-wrenching incident, a seven-year-old boy tragically lost his life after falling into an uncovered fire safety tank at the Amba Heights residential complex in Dibrugarh on Monday. According to reports, the child was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. The incident has sparked outrage among residents and conscious citizens alike, with serious allegations of negligence being levelled against the building’s owner.
The post-mortem was conducted on Monday in Dibrugarh, after which the child’s body was taken to his home in Mariani, Jorhat. The final rites are scheduled to be performed on Tuesday at the Mariani crematorium.
Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy confirmed that an unnatural death (UD) case has been registered at Dibrugarh police station, and further investigation is underway.
Residents of the building have expressed anger and grief, questioning why the fire safety tank was left uncovered. “Why was the tank open? This is sheer negligence. Due to the carelessness of the building owner, a young life has been lost,” said one resident. The incident has also raised serious questions about the role of the Dibrugarh District Development Authority (DDDA), with concerns over how permission was granted for such a building allegedly lacking basic safety provisions. Notably, no CCTV cameras were installed in the complex, compounding the safety concerns.
