NAGAON: A month-long internship programme in Manuscript and Manuscriptology was organized by the Society for Srimanta Sankardeva (SSS) in collaboration with Dhing College.

The programme concluded on August 2 with an exhibition of traditional paintings. The exhibition of the manuscript paintings drawn by the internees was inaugurated by Nagaon District Commissioner Debashish Sarma by lighting a lamp. There were a total of 38 students in the internship programme, whose paintings were exhibited.

The event was also attended by Dr Sanjib Kr Borkakoti, President of SSS. The exhibition was attended by prominent film director Rajen Rajkhowa as the chief guest. The guests were welcomed by the Principal of Dhing College, Dr Biman Hazarika. The course was taught by prominent traditional artiste Mridu Moucham Bora and Papu Das, who were assisted by Ankur Jyoti Nath, Jonmoni Das, Janmoni Das, and Harshita Shivam.

Dhing College is a pioneer in providing internships in Manuscriptology for degree level students. Society for Srimanta Sankardeva will also conduct such internship programmes in other interested colleges in Assam. The SSS has been carrying out regular workshops on Aharya of Bhaona, mask making, manuscript painting, etc. for the last fourteen years since its inception in 2011. It also runs a website www.sankaradeva.com which is a great treasure of information about Sankari literature and culture.
