GOLAGHAT: Around a hundred women led by Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), and Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS) staged a protest in front of the District Commissioner’s Office of Golaghat today. The women’s body demanded that all proletarian women’s microfinance loans be waived off.
At the protest site, Ritumani Hazarika, Central Chief Organising Secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, said that before the last assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had gathered women at every meeting and announced that the loans of women’s microfinance would be waived off and that no woman should repay the loan. Further she said, “In the meantime, women had to pay the loan culture every seven days, so they sold their cows and goats and became proletarians. But even today, they are being harassed. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has now resorted to lies by saying that he himself will waive loans to women. So, if the loans of all women are not waived before the upcoming panchayat elections, they decided not to let the BJP enter the village areas.”
In the protest programme, several leaders of Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), and Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS) were present and demanded waiver of microfinance loans to all women.
