NAGAON: The formal launching of an NCC unit at Khagarijan College under 8 Assam BN NCC was held in the college campus on Monday. The event was attended by the Commanding Officer of 8 Assam BN, NCC, Lieutenant Colonel Akshay Das, who was escorted by the guard of honour.
Following the lighting of the lamp, the NCC flag was hoisted by Dr Ramesh Nath, Principal of the college, and a chorus on NCC song chanted by students and cadets. A brief felicitation event was also conducted to honour the esteemed guest and officials of the NCC office. The Commanding Officer formally raised the NCC unit by presenting the permission letter to the Principal. This was followed after the inauguration of the NCC office and a formal session in the conference hall where the Principal of the college, President of Governing Body of the college, and the Commanding Officer addressed the gathering of cadets and students.
Dr Ramesh Nath highlighted the journey of the institution from its establishment in 1972. He expressed his gratitude to the Commanding Officer for giving the institution the opportunity of raising an NCC unit in the college. Dr Dilip Sarma expressed his happiness at this successful milestone that the institution completed and wished the best for the students and the entire college fraternity highlighting the positive contribution NCC makes to an institution. The Commanding Officer delivered the keynote address where he spoke about his journey in the Indian Army for over 20 years and his experience on NCC. With the history of being a successful NCC cadet in the past, he spoke on the various advantages and opportunities that NCC provides to a student, and how this three-year experience shapes the mind and personality of a student offering clarity in individual life as well as professional avenues. He encouraged the students to give their best and their skills in this three-year period where they can become the best version of themselves in all aspects. The event came to an end with a vote of thanks by Maitreyee Dutta, Assistant Professor of Department of English, who mentored the session.
Over 100 students attended the session along with 15 faculty members. Lt Jalin Prakash Chetia, ANO NCC ADP College, attended the occasion as a special invitee. Over 50 NCC cadets along with GCI Gandikota Sirisha, Subedar Major Kejang Tsering, Havaldar Suresh Rambah, Havaldar Amrit Thapa, and NK Binod Ranabhat also attended the event, a release added here.
