JAMUGURIHAT: Noted social activist and retired teacher of Nagsankar High School, Mohan Gogoi (81), breathed his last at his house in Gogoi Chowk due to old age-related ailments, on Sunday morning.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters-in-law, two daughters and a host of relatives. His demise has been widely mourned in the Nagsankar area.

He joined Nagsankar HS School as an assistant teacher in 1969; and superannuated from the same school in 1998.

Late Gogoi was an eminent drama activist and was a sports organizer of the greater Nagsankar area. He had acted in many Assamese dramas including Siraj, Bhogjora, and Maniram Dewan. An accomplished 'bhaona' artiste, Gogoi played a pivotal role in the formation of the Nagsankar Sports Club. Late Gogoi was closely associated with Nagsankar Samabai Samittee, New Nagsankar PHC, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Nagsankar Drama Club, Dakhin Nagsankar HS among others.

In the morning, members of many organizations paid floral tributes at the mortal remains of late Gogoi. The organizations included Nagsankar HSS, Alok, Nagsankar Samabai Samittee, Purani Telia Gaon Unnayan Samittee, Gogoi Chowk Gaon Unnayan Samittee, and Srimanta Sankardev Sangha.
