One year of Abhi-Neel murder, Justice yet to be received

Abhi-Neel murder case completes one year today while the justice in the heinous crime still awaits.

Guwahati: One year to the most heartrending and traumatic incident in the history of mob lynching and justice is yet to be received! Whether one calls it legal delay, judicial breakdown or a lackadaisical authority, the irony is that justice in the much-talked and strongly condemned Abhi-Neel murder case still awaits. The main culprits are yet to be punished for the haunting crime they committed.

The trial for justice in the Abhi-Neel murder case still continues at the Nagaon Court. The inimitable loss the parents of the two young men suffered from in this year since the fateful day in beyond anybody else’s capacity and yet, they are hoping that the real culprits will get their dues.

Remembering the two young men and as a mark of paying homage to Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das, the Abhi-Neel Smriti Raksha Samiti has organized a programme at Silpukhuri Rajahuwa Naamghar today.

It was June 8, 2018 when the two Guwahati boys Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das had gone for a nature trail into the remote areas of Karbi Anglong’s Dokmoka. But hardly had they knew that this was going to be the last and worst day of their lives as some illiterate superstitious groups of people beaten them to death despite being repeatedly cried for mercy by the two victims. Reportedly, the mob, fooled by some fake news of child-kidnapping on media, misinterpreted the news and killed the two Guwahati youth mercilessly.

With the news of the mob lynching spreading throughout, a sense of fear, pity and heartbreak prevailed across the state, nation and even in other parts of the world.

The pity is that despite the huge condemnations of the civic societies and the common masses, such acts heinous acts still happen and the most recent example to be cited here is the mob lynching incident that has happened in Tinsukia’s tea estate killing a mother-son duo.
