Opium and heroin seized, 4 arrested by Assam Police

DIGBOI: At least four peddlers were nabbed and significant quantities of contraband substances including opium and heroin were seized by a team of Assam Police in Tinsukia's Bordumsa during two separate operations conducted along Assam-Arunachal border locations.

According to sources, Deben Dohutia (45) of Kothalguri village and Ranju Hazarika (43 ) of Miholi Ritu village under Bordumsa Police Station were arrested on Friday during the joint operation conducted by Assam Police with CI Pengaree Manoranjan Saikia on the lead in association with Nitu Changmai, the OC Bordumsa and his team. "We arrested the peddlers from their respective residences during a raid subsequently recovering 260 grams of opium, 6 grams of Heroin, 4 insulins and other objectionable items along with cash amounting to Rs 6200," Bordumsa OC said when contacted.

Assam Police particularly in a vulnerable border location like Bordumsa has been relentlessly launching the crusades against the menace of drugs and its trafficking as a part of its ongoing 'War on Drugs' programmes. "We have immediately forwarded the accused based on Bordumsa PS case no 27/2022 u/s 17(C)/21(b)/29 NDPS ACT," the official added.

Earlier on Wednesday, two peddlers were netted along with the contraband in their possessions including 24 grams of heroin and cash amounting to Rs 40,000 from the possession of the two peddlers identified as Tumbha Sing Moran (33) of Litong village and Jibon Mohanta (36) of Digholipother village under Bordumsa Police station in Tinsukia district. The arrest was made during an anti-drug operation conducted by Bordumsa police team. The arrested accused were immediately booked under Bordumsa PS case no 26/2022 u/s 21(B)/29 NDPS ACT.
