TEZPUR: A district-level orientation and coordination meeting was held on Thursday at Conference Hall-II of the Office of the District Commissioner, Sonitpur, as part of the year-long celebration of Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh (November 15, 2024 to November 15, 2025) and the nationwide rollout of two major tribal welfare initiatives, ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’ (DAJGUA) and ‘PM-JANMAN,’ launched by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

The meeting was chaired by District Commissioner Ankur Bharali and attended by ADCs Kabita Kakati Konwar, and Twahir Alam, CDC of Dhekiajuli Dyotiva Bora, CDC of Naduar Manash Saikia, Assistant Commissioners, Heads of various departments, representatives from the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP), tribal organizations, and other key stakeholders.

These flagship programmes aim to ensure inclusive socio-economic development of tribal communities through a focused IEC (Information, Education, Communication) campaign and a Benefit Saturation Camp Action Plan, scheduled to be implemented in Sonitpur district from June 15 to July 15. The initiatives have been designed to raise awareness and ensure the saturation of eligible benefits at the grassroots level.

A special focus of the initiative is on Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), its awareness, screening, and counselling in tribal regions. In observance of World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, a special awareness session was conducted under the theme ‘Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy.’ Dr Pradip Kumar Sarma, SDM&HO (SH), delivered an insightful presentation on SCD, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, community awareness, and preventive action.

As part of the programme, five beneficiaries under the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) were ceremoniously handed over home solar panels, agricultural water pumps, and other essential livelihood tools, reinforcing the government’s commitment to last-mile benefit delivery.

The campaign will be executed through 10 dedicated camps across 6 blocks, covering 40 villages in Sonitpur district, and will ensure doorstep delivery of entitlements, convergence of Central and State schemes, and real-time data collection for eligible beneficiaries. The benefits to be delivered through the camps include caste certificates, enrolment in welfare schemes, access to health, livelihood, Aadhaar, banking, digital services, agri services, etc.

The District Commissioner urged all the departments and field officials to ensure active participation and collective effort to ensure comprehensive outreach to all eligible tribal households, reiterating the government’s dedication to tribal empowerment, inclusion, and equity.
