SIVASAGAR: In response to the gas leak incident at RDS-147a (SKP-135-VI) rig under the Rudrasagar oilfield of ONGC’s Assam Asset, the Sivasagar Regional Office of the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) has been undertaking daily pollution control measures since the leak was first reported on June 12.

According to Sivasagar District Administration sources, as part of its response, the board has installed permanent air quality monitoring equipment at the site to systematically study the potential environmental impact of the gas emission. As per the preliminary expert report, the current level of air pollution remains within permissible limits.

Additionally, to prevent the spread of gas compounds into the atmosphere, high-pressure water spraying is being carried out continuously around the rig using water pumped from the nearby Dikhow River. This is intended to suppress and dilute airborne chemical particles released along with the gas. The Pollution Control Board assured that the situation is being closely monitored and all necessary precautions are in place to minimize environmental risks.
