TINSUKIA: In a bizarre and disgraceful incident at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district, a woman BJP leader allegedly physically assaulted a police officer inside the Kakopathar police station on Sunday after the police officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the police station for questioning.

According to reports, Deepanjali Kakoty Moran, an executive member of State BJP and resident of Dirak Powai, engaged in altercation with sub-inspector Aupurba Das over the release of her driver Srikanta Phukan of Dirak Amguri who was wanted by police in connection with assault on a woman. Initially she allegedly used abusive language and later forcibly attempted to take out Phukan from the police station. When SI Das prevented her from doing so, she pushed him aside and allegedly assaulted Das physically. Though a case vide no 48/2020 was registered against Deepanjali Kakoty Phukan u/s294/448/332/427, the police is yet to arrest her.
