NAGAON: Political parties of Karbi Anglong district will soon move Dispur demanding steps to bring an end of the decades-long inter-State border dispute.

A meeting led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council secretariat discussed the border issue on Saturday and finally decided to bring the issue to the notice of the State Government for concrete steps.

As alleged, encroachment in areas under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council by suspected Naga civilians from neighbouring Nagaland is going on for the last couple of months. "Encroachment is going on and for reasons unknown, the local administration has failed to tackle the issue," said a Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council source.

The all-party meeting later formed a standing committee comprising of administrative heads of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, and council executive members to look into the issue.

Karbi Anglong has more than 10,000 sq km area as per land allocation to the autonomous council in 1951. Encroachment from neighbouring Meghalaya and Nagaland allegedly poses a threat to most of the bordering regions under the geographical boundary of the autonomous council. Congress leaders of the hill district did not take part in the meeting.
