GORESWAR: A three-day vibrant event is scheduled to be held at Betna near Goreswar in Tamulpur district on April 18, April 19, and April 20, marking the 18th biennial conference of the Sarania Kachari Students’ Union, the 11th annual conference of the Sarania Kachari Democratic Women’s Forum, along with the central celebration of the Sarania Kachari community’s Bamboo Gosain Festival. Extensive preparations are underway day and night to make the event a grand success.
The reception committee is actively engaged in decorating and preparing the Hitesh Deka Memorial Coordination Field, named in memory of the late president of the Sarania Kachari Development Council, for the central Bamboo Gosain Festival and the associated conferences. Around 90% of the preparation work is already completed. The general secretary of the Sarania Kachari Students’ Union, Dipjyoti Sarania, is personally overseeing the progress.
It is expected that about fifty thousand guests will be welcomed, and nearly 200 volunteers are being trained by the reception committee for the occasion. Spread across about 10 to 12 bighas of land, around 700 delegates will participate in the festival and the conferences of both the Students’ Union and the Women’s Forum.
According to the detailed schedule on April 18, reception committee president and MLA of Rangia constituency, Bhabesh Kalita, will inaugurate the main gate of the Hitesh Deka Memorial Coordination Field, followed by the opening of the Gosain Ghar (Bamboo shrine) by retired headmaster Amindra Nath.
Subsequently, other events will include the commencement of the auspicious rituals, unveiling of the Rabha Gate, opening of the guest hall, delegate camp, exhibition, and market stalls.
Executive meeting of the Sarania Kachari Students’ Union.will be in the afternoon. The delegate session will be inaugurated by former president Dharmeswar Deka in the evening.
On April 19, following the flag hoisting floral garland offering to the portrait of Hitesh Deka and Tree plantation ceremony will be performed in the morning.
Inauguration of a state-level traditional fish-hunting dance competition of the Sarania Kachari community by former Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania while a symposium on “Generational Gap and Its Impact on Sarania Kachari Community Life” will be inaugurated by Tapan Sarania and presided over by Sharat Deka where Dr. Bimal Deka, retired lecturer Jagat Bora, and writer Bhaba Deka will attend as speakers. A special felicitation and souvenir release ceremony will be held.
