SILCHAR: On his maiden visit to Cachar after assuming the charge of the state Congress, Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday made a scathing attack on the BJP government and accused it of depriving the Barak Valley of its due attention. Gogoi, who started his day at the Silchar Railway Station by paying homage to the language martyrs followed by a visit to the newly-constructed Ramakrishna Mission Math, said that the first BJP government led by Sarbananda Sonowal promised a number of projects for the Barak Valley, but his successor Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government stalled all those projects. “Silchar has all the potential to become a city like Singapore, but only because of the present BJP government, the entire valley has been facing all the impediments, be it in connectivity or health or other basic infrastructure,” Gogoi said.
Pointing fingers at the BJP-RSS regime, Gogoi who represents Jorhat in the Lok Sabha, said that the state government had an evil design behind its decision to grant arms licences to the people residing in the districts bordering Bangladesh. “The government plans to create tension in the state. Arms licences will be granted to the BJP goons, syndicate players, and criminals,” Gogoi alleged. Maintaining that Himanta Biswa Sarma was a champion in switching allegiance to the ruling forces with changing times, Gogoi said that the people of Assam had not forgotten the role of Sarma in Sarada and Louis Berger scams.
Gaurav Gogoi, who faces serious allegations of being a Pakistani agent, was seen doing a balancing act as he meticulously planned his itinerary with visits to Hindu mandirs and to the residence of the Islamic cleric. Gogoi maintained that he had profound respect for the language martyrs as his political ideology roots in mutual recognition among all the communities.
Gogoi further visited a number of makeshift relief camps in Silchar as well as in the suburbs and handed over essential commodities to the flood victims.
