GAURISAGAR: The year-long Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Sivasagar Jatiya Vidyalaya in Rupohi Pathar begin on Saturday. Dr. Hemanta Phukan, president of the Management Committee of the school, by inaugurating the function, hoisted the celebration flag. Later the Smriti Tarpan function was offered by Dr. Udayaditya Rajkonwar, Jugal Bora, Dr. Mahammad Hussain, and Rashmirekha Hazarika, the principal of the school. An open session was presided over by Dr. Hemanta Phukan. Dr Samsuz Jaman, former principal of Swahid Peoli Phukan College, Namti, read out the secretarial report.
The school began its journey from the abandoned Sivasagar College hostel in Demow Pathar in 2001 and was shifted to its present permanent sprawling campus in May 2018, which is a significant achievement for any Assamese medium private school. Addressing the students and guardians Dr. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, former Vice Chancellor, Sati Sadhani State University, and professor, Department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University, urged the teachers and guardians to prepare the pupils for a new world of bigger ambitions and tougher competitions. The meeting was also addressed by Dr. Rupam Borkakoty, Madhusmita Gogoi, Junumoni Gogoi, Arabinda Baruah, and Abbasuddin Ahmed.
Earlier, Rashmirekha Hazarika, the principal of the school, offered a vote of thanks to all. After the meeting a colourful cultural procession was taken out. Deba Kumar Hazarika, former librarian of Sibsagar College, flagged it off. Partha Pradip Bora, of Dibrugarh University, released the list of year-long programmes. The foundation of the late Amrit Gogoi memorial gate was laid by Debajita Gogoi.
