GAURISAGAR: A state of panic has gripped Bhatiapar Barichuk village, located on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district, following a massive gas leak that began on Thursday morning. The leak occurred at Rig No. RDS-147, operated by ONGC Assam Asset, Nazira.

In response to the emergency, the Sivasagar district administration, along with ONGC’s safety teams, has been working continuously to prevent the situation from worsening. With the gas leak showing no signs of abatement, both the district administration and ONGC authorities have appealed to residents living near the rig to evacuate the area and move to designated safe zones.

In a press release issued on Saturday, ONGC Assam Asset informed the media that a high-level team led by the Director (Technical & Field Services) has assumed operational control of Well RDS-147. All necessary equipment and fluids have been mobilised to the site. A comprehensive well-control plan has been implemented, and pumping operations have begun after the successful installation and testing of critical connections.

Meanwhile, teams from ONGC and the district administration are actively engaging with evacuated residents to ensure their safety and well-being. Necessary arrangements have been made for their temporary relocation, and villagers have moved with their belongings to safer locations in compliance with the district administration’s directives.
