Sonitpur DM Declares Firing Range Area at Debendranagar as 'Protected Area' for Public Safety

TEZPUR: In the interest of public safety and security, the District Magistrate of Sonitpur, Ankur Bharali, issued an order dated January 9, 2025, declaring the Firing Range Area at Debendranagar, covered under Dag No. 24 of village Khalihamari, Mauza Garaimari, within Chariduar Revenue Circle, as a “Protected Area”. This area is under the title ownership of the Inspector General, Frontier Headquarters, SSB, Tezpur (formerly under the ownership of the Commandant, Training Centre, SSB, Salonibari). The declaration has been made under Section 8(F) of the Assam Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Act, 1960. As per the order, the entry and movement of the general public in the designated area are strictly prohibited. Exceptions include personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), officials of the District Administrative Authority, and police personnel, provided they have proper authorization. This order comes into effect immediately.
