Silchar: Sribhumi police on Thursday destroyed a huge quantity of narcotic substances it had seized in recent times. District police burnt the substances at a brick kiln in Sharifnagar in the presence of Kankan Jyoti Saikia, the DIG (Southern Range), SP Partha Pratim Das, and officials from the BSF. 

Substances destroyed on Thursday included 14.307 kg of heroin worth Rs 28 crore 61 lakh 40 thousand, 15,00,910 Yaba tablets worth Rs 75 crores 4 lakh 55 thousand, 6,155.755 kg of ganja worth Rs 30 crore 77 lakh 87 thousand 750, and 2,83,226 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 19 crores 82 lakh 58,200. Apart from other banned capsules and tablets worth Rs 2 crore, 57 lakh, and 59 thousand.

In Cachar district too, drugs worth Rs 280 crore had been destroyed. This included 85 kg heroin, 1827.521 kg ganja, 17,19,254 Yaba tablets, 57,865 bottles of cough syrup and 6 568 kg methamphetamine.
