BOKAKHAT: Organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, in collaboration with the Bokakhat subdivision administration and the Numaligarh Sankari Kala-Kristi Sangha, the summer workshop held at Bokakhat concluded on Tuesday. On this occasion, a closing ceremony was held at the open auditorium of Bokakhat Higher Secondary School, where the event was curated by cultural worker Gitanjali Kalita. Pankaj Saikia, Secretary of the Center for Sattriya Culture Practice and Research, delivered a detailed explanation on the development and relevance of Sattriya culture. He appreciated the government’s initiative, stating that the unparalleled creations of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva and the Sattra tradition’s rich culture have elevated the Assamese community.
Borbayan Muhikanta Bora expressed that this Sattriya workshop organized for students has greatly benefited the participants. In the same event, Jitu Sharma Rajkhowa, President of the Assam State Journalists’ Association, stated that the recognition of Sattriya dance as a classical dance form in 2000 was a significant achievement for the people of Assam. He urged the government to organize a grand Sattriya event to present it to the global stage, much like Bihu and Kumoi festivals.
