SIVASAGAR: In a heartwarming celebration of resilience, creativity, and literary excellence, the felicitation volume ‘Swarnamoyi,’ dedicated to eminent author, organizer, and retired Principal Swarnajyoti Baruah Borbora, was ceremoniously unveiled on Sunday at the auditorium of Sivasagar Girls’ College.

Recipient of the State Best Teacher Award from the Government of Assam and a tireless literary contributor despite battling a critical illness, Swarnajyoti Baruah Borbora has edited 20 books, authored numerous original writings, published ten volumes, and written two plays.

The day’s proceedings began with the flag hoisting by Dr Jiban Kalita, Vice-President of the Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha. The welcome address was delivered by District Secretary Manoj Kumar Gogoi. As a tribute to renowned Sanskrit scholar and educationist Krishnakanta Handique on his birth anniversary, a ceremonial lamp was lit before his portrait by noted litterateur Nahendra Padun.

The unveiling ceremony, held under the aegis of the Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha and presided over by President Jogesh Kishor Phukan, witnessed the formal release of ‘Swarnamoyi’ by retired Principal of Gaurisagar Higher Secondary Industrial Institute and noted academician Tokheswar Borthakur. In his address, he remarked that the book contained diverse perspectives on motherhood, emphasizing the moral strength a mother imparted to future generations. “Without virtues, discipline, or empathy, no one can truly succeed. Swarnajyoti Baruah Borbora has spread her fragrance like a Khorikajai flower,” he poetically noted.

Joining as a guest of honour, educationist and social worker Monika Saikia acknowledged Borbora’s organizational skills in both literary and educational spheres. Former District President of the Xahitya Xabha Prema Gogoi recalled her active involvement during the centenary session of the Axam Xahitya Xabha held in Sivasagar. Overwhelmed with emotion, Swarnajyoti Baruah Borbora expressed her heartfelt gratitude, calling the felicitation volume a precious gift.

The event also featured addresses by Dr Arundhati Mahanta, educationist Dr Prakash Kotoki, Juga Gogoi, Jugamaya Handique Saikia, Kalpana Baruah, and Lakshminarayan Baruah. Representatives of the Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, its affiliated branches, and several cultural and literary organizations attended the event and extended their congratulations to Swarnajyoti Baruah Borbora.
