DIGBOI: Bordumsa Police on Monday morning arrested three armed miscreants from two different places under Bordumsa police station in Tinsukia district, said Puna Gogoi, the Subdivisional Police Officer, Margherita.

The miscreants who were charged with multiple crimes of different nature were identified as Grisup Phukan of Borhollong, Dhanya Saikia and Bijoy Dubey of Bordumsa in Tinsukia district.

"Following the arrest of Grisup Phukan from his residence, the police could further the other two. Police also recovered two 7.65 pistols, 14 rounds of live ammunitions, cash Rs 23,000 along with two mobile phones from their possessions," said Gogoi. "The trio was involved in various criminal activities, including robbery, and was serving as direct link with the banned outfit of ULFA," said the police official.

Lauding the pro-active nature of Bordumsa Police located along the sensitive Assam -Arunachal porus border belt, the official said, "The perverted elements in the society, particularly the youths in most of the cases, are being sought after and generally used by rebel groups as their sleeping cells or readymade platforms to perpetrate their wicked design," said Gogoi adding, "Youths must be careful enough and resist the lofty temptations offered by any terrorist organization."

Sources at the local security agency in Arunachal's Bordumsa also informed that various shopkeepers and petty hotels in Bordumsa along the Assam-Arunachal roadside were being frightened and served extortion demands by unknown miscreants over a period of time. "Several man-hunt operations have been initiated and traps laid to nab the culprits," added the source.

The trio was booked after registering case under Bordumsa Police station case No 3/2021. The accused were prosecuted u/s 120 (b),121, 121 (a),123, 393, IPC together with 25 of the Arms Act 1959, and 10/13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention ) Prevention Act (UAPA )1967. The accused are under three days of police remand.
