SILCHAR: In a mysterious incident, unidentified miscreants ransacked 9 monitors of the dialysis unit of the Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Sunday night. The SMCH authority has lodged an FIR with the police. Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Principal of the SMCH said that on Monday morning, the staff entered the dialysis unit and to their utter surprise found monitors of 9 dialysis machines destroyed.
The reason as well as the identities of the miscreants remained unclear. However, the manner the damage was done indicates that the miscreants were well aware of the layout of the dialysis unit. Dr Sayantan Das, Senior In-Charge of the dialysis unit said that the miscreants broke the locked door and entered. He said that they also broke the lock of another unit where there was no CCTV surveillance. Interestingly, the miscreants did not steal any other things but only destroyed the dialysis machines.
The incident has badly affected the services of the SMCH as the dialysis unit treats at least 30 to 40 patients completely free per day. The damaged parts of the equipment, procured from Germany, were not easily available. Presently, the remaining 3 to 4 dialysis machines are catering to the patients. Dr Gupta doubted the persons behind the vandalism were against the SMCH having its own dialysis unit. Meanwhile, police have already begun an investigation.
