DHEKIAJULI: Frustrated by years of negligence and broken promises, villagers in Dimakuchi under Bhergaon constituency took to the streets in protest, demanding urgent repair of a severely damaged rural road. The agitating locals warned of election boycott if the government fails to act swiftly.
The protest erupted in Sadhubasti, where villagers carrying placards and shouting slogans like 'No Road, No Vote' and 'Repair Before Election,' expressed their anger over the dismal condition of the road connecting Dimakuchi, Sadhubasti, and Badalapara. The stretch, particularly during monsoon, turns into a muddy stream, making daily commutes both risky and exhausting.
"This road has been ignored for decades. Despite repeated appeals to the local Executive Member Daobaicha Boro, no concrete action has been taken," said a protester. "It's high time the authorities took our suffering seriously. If the road is not repaired before the elections, we will boycott voting entirely."
Residents lamented that even after 70+ years of independence, they were still waiting for basic infrastructure. "Governments come and go, but our lives remain the same stuck in the mud," said another villager.
The protestors also criticized local leaders for appearing only during elections and vanishing afterward, accusing them of exploiting people's votes without addressing their core issues. They particularly targeted BTR leaders, questioning the contrast between their vision of development and the harsh ground reality. As the protest gained momentum, the atmosphere turned tense with continuous chants and slogans echoing through the village lanes. The villagers made it clear that their patience had run out.
