KALAIGAON: The Kalaigaon State Veterinary Dispensary, in collaboration with the Kalaigaon Model Hospital, observed the World Rabies Day with a day-long programme in the premises of Kalaigaon Model Hospital on Wednesday.
The day is observed each year on September 28 as a tribute to Louis Pasteur, who was the inventor of the first effective rabies vaccine in the world. The day is observed to promote the fight against rabies and to raise awareness of its prevention.
The function started with floral tributes to Louis Pasteur by Dr. B Das, Superintendent of Kalaigaon Model Hospital. On the occasion, an open meeting was held and this was presided over by Dr. Prafulla Konwar, Veterinary Officer of Kalaigaon State Veterinary Dispensary.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Konwar said that World Rabies Day was an opportunity to reflect on how rabies impacted the community. "World Rabies Day is an opportunity to reflect on our efforts to control this deadly disease and remind ourselves that the fight against rabies is not yet over," he added. More than 100 people attended the meeting. Several medical officials from the Veterinary and Health department like Dr L Sarma took part in this programme.
