KAKCHING: Two men in their 30s were discovered hanging from separate ropes tied to a pine tree in Manipur's Kakching district on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations suggest that the police suspect it to be a case of suicide.
The bodies of 31-year-old Mayanglangbam Kumarjit, also known as Angothoi, and 30-year-old Naorem Mahesh were discovered in the Machin-Manao hills, under the jurisdiction of the Kakching police station, according to the police.
The bodies were discovered around 1:30 pm by local firewood collectors who had gone to the hills. The families of the two friends reported that they had been missing for the past week after leaving their homes in the Kakching district on December 5. Family members expressed their inability to understand why the two friends would have taken their own lives.
The police reported finding syringes, allegedly used for substance abuse, near the tree where the bodies were discovered. An official from the Kakching police station stated that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, previous month, in a shocking incident, a young tribal girl identified as Seema Debbarma (21) was found hanging in their family home in the Herma area of Rongmala ADC village, under the Bisramganj police station, on November 12.
The family members of Seema, including her father, Jitendra Debbarma, had been waiting for her to wake up late in the morning. When Seema did not respond to their repeated calls for her to wake up, the family members broke into her room and found her dead.
Following the information, Bisramganj police personnel arrived and transported the deceased body to Bisramganj Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
