Massive Weapon Haul in Manipur; Convoys Secured for Safe Goods Transport

Security forces in Manipur have seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition while ensuring the safe movement of essential goods along key highways with enhanced security measures.

CHURACHANDPUR: Security forces have confiscated a large cache of weapons and ammunition in the Teising area of Churachandpur district. The seized items include a .303 rifle, four 12-bore single-barrel guns, a 9mm pistol, a .22 rifle, a 12-bore shotgun, 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 5 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 2 rounds of .22 ammunition, 36 rounds of 12-bore ammunition, a .303 rifle magazine, and a pistol magazine.

In a separate operation in the Sarang Tampak and Hrinkhu areas of Chandel district, security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, a 9mm pistol magazine, three locally made mortars (Pompi), two live mortar bombs, and a single-barrel gun.

Additionally, the Manipur Police Control Room has confirmed the safe passage of 126 and 372 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-37 and NH-2. Enhanced security measures have been implemented at vulnerable points, with security convoys ensuring the uninterrupted movement of vehicles along these routes.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, in a significant breakthrough, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, in a joint operation, seized a massive cache of explosives and warlike materials in Mizoram's Hnahthial district on Thursday.

According to the PRO of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (east), acting on precise intelligence about the movement of such items, the teams set up a mobile vehicle checkpoint in the Thingsai area.

“The alert troops intercepted a vehicle, carried out a thorough search, apprehended two individuals, and recovered 775 kg of explosives, 4700 detonators, and 2250 meters of Cordtex. The apprehended individuals and the recovered items have been handed over to the police,” the PRO of IGAR (east) stated.
