10,000 quintals of rice bound for Meghalaya: Food and Civil Supplies

SHILLONG: Secretary Food and Civil Supplies, Pravin Bakshi on Friday informed that 10, 000 quintals of rice has reached Guwahati under the Open Market Sale Scheme of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) which is meant for Meghalaya.

Bakshi told reporters that the Grade A rice is being bought at the rate of Rs 2250 per quintal.

It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the State government has informed that it has accorded Rs 26, 38, 75, 500 for a quantity of 1, 17, 278 quintals of rice for two months under the Open Market Sale Scheme to be procured from the FCI.

The Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies informed that the rice would be sold at the rate of Rs 22.50 per kg by the retailers.

It may be noted that State Food and Civil Supplies Minister, James Sangma had acknowledged shortage of essential commodities in some districts in the wake of the nation-wide lockdown. Sangma however said that the government has adopted various measures to meet the State’s requirement.

On Thursday, Bakshi said that after procuring rice from the open market sale scheme of the FCI there will be no shortage of food grains in the State.

He also informed that out of the 1, 17, 278 quintals roughly 10 per cent has already reached Guwahati and is in the process of being lifted and payments for which has been made.
