3 Co-Accused Sent to 6-Day Police Custody in Raja Raghuvanshi Case

Shillong: A local court in Shillong on Thursday granted six days of police custody to the three newly arrested co-accused in the murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.

 Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda said, “Police had asked for eight days police custody but the court granted them six days.”

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police brought the trio — Silome James, Balbir Ahirbar alias Ballu, and Lokendra Singh Tomar — to Shillong after their recent apprehension. The accused were presented before the court the same day.

Silome James, identified as a property dealer, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the destruction and concealment of crucial evidence, including a pistol, ammunition, and cash believed to be taken from a bag belonging to co-accused Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Balbir Ahirbar, known as “Ballu”, a security guard, is suspected to hold vital information about the movements of the accused at the Indore flat where Sonam Raghuvanshi took shelter after fleeing Meghalaya following the murder on May 23 in Sohra.

The third accused, Lokendra Singh Tomar, is the landlord of the Indore flat. He was arrested from Gwalior and subsequently brought to Shillong.

Confirming a major lead in the investigation, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Wednesday said, “Today afternoon on the leading of the accused Silom James, a country-made pistol with two magazines and two .32 ammunition was recovered by SIT from a stream and Rs50,000 from his I10 car MP09WG 2352 which he took out from laptop bag of Raj.”
