SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Police Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) busted another inter-state drug cartel in the past two days. Ten people hailing from Shillong, Guwahati and Nagaland were arrested in the raids that led to the recovery of 1175 grams of heroin worth around Rs 5 crore in the domestic street markets.

According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills, Claudia Lyngwa, the ANTF team received specific intelligence inputs about the movement of contraband stacked in soap cases. “Our team acted as per the inputs and arrested a man identified as Alberto Raplang from Shillong who further provide leads that led to the arrest of three others from Guwahati on Tuesday evening.” The three arrested from Guwahati are identified as Sashi, Abhi Das and Gracy; and they have been allegedly involved in the drugs trade for quite some time.

While the latest bust is the latest achievement of the ANTF, the SP also revealed that the drug traffickers are now using the Dimapur-Guwahati road to ferry the consignments. They have stopped using the Jirabam-Silchar Shillong road after a series of crackdown on the route in the recent past, claimed the SP, adding that the traffickers are using the new route to transfer the consignment to other districts of Assam.

There is also a fresh lookout for other accomplices. Astonishinly, as revealed by the ANTF head, most of those arrested people come from respectable families. There are indicators that married couples are also involved in the trade.
