BSF, Meghalaya police seize 6,000 Yaba tablets

SHILLONG: Acting on a tip-off, the BSF along with Meghalaya Police carried out a special operation at East Khasi Hills district, stated a press release. During the operation the team stopped a suspicious Maruti Alto (ML-05-Q-2979) which was coming from Shillong on National Highway 40 at Pomsutia under Pynursla police station. During the search of the vehicle, the forces recovered 30 packets containing 6,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 60 lakh and 10 gram of suspected heroin valued at Rs 50,000 thousand. The three vehicle passengers have been arrested.

The BSF has intensified its operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent such illegal transporting of narcotics/psychotropic substances.

UK Nayal, PRO, BSF Meghalaya applauded the joint efforts of the BSF and Meghalaya Police and said that more such joint operation will be undertaken in the coming days. He also said that more information is likely to be revealed after the interrogation of the apprehended persons. He further stated that during the month of January 2020, 3,217 cattle heads worth Rs 5,26,38,200 were seized which is a big dent to the trans-border smuggling syndicate.
