SHILLONG: In a resolute move to tighten vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully thwarted an illegal crossing attempt, apprehending five Bangladeshi nationals in two separate operations carried out along the international boundary.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops of the 193rd Battalion intercepted two individuals from Sunamganj District of Bangladesh near the East Khasi Hills sector. During preliminary questioning, the duo confessed to entering Indian territory in search of employment. “They revealed that they had crossed the border in search of job opportunities in India,” BSF authorities confirmed. Both were later handed over to Dangar Police Station for further legal procedures.

In a separate operation, personnel of the 50th Battalion detected suspicious movement near the border in West Garo Hills and swiftly moved in, apprehending three more Bangladeshi nationals hailing from Pabna, Sherpur, and Kishoreganj districts. Investigations revealed that all three had previously been working as tailors in a garment factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. “They were handed over to the Mahendraganj Police Station in West Garo Hills for further legal proceedings,” officials stated. The operations highlight BSF Meghalaya’s ongoing commitment to securing the international border and curbing illegal infiltration. “The BSF remains steadfast in its duty to secure the international border and will continue to take stringent action against any unlawful activities,” a spokesperson affirmed.
